The Flint Classroom Support Fund exists to enrich and strengthen the learning experiences of Flint Community Schools' students. The Great Idea Grant program does this by providing funds to support classroom and school-wide projects, which enable creative teaching ideas to become realities.

Flint Classroom Support Fund

Great Idea Grant programs have encouraged collaboration between teachers. They have linked learning across the disciplines; new curriculum ideas have been piloted; and school teams have tested new strategies that meet their strategic plans. Grant programs have made learning exciting and meaningful for thousands of Flint students.

Teachers, at all levels and in every subject area, have responded enthusiastically to Great Idea Grants. As we approach our 20th year, we hope even more educators will take advantage of the opportunities offered through this program. The grant program is supported financially by contributions of individuals and businesses, donations to the district's Employees' Combined Charitable Campaign, and various fund raisers. The Flint Classroom Support Fund is very grateful to all who help in making this program a cornerstone for inspiration and education.

Our program has helped hundreds of teachers, support staff and principals initiate programs that have positively impacted thousands of students. We hope that you will share your ideas with us so that we may help make them a reality.

General Grant Information

What is the Great Idea Grant Program?

The Great Idea Grant program offers awards to the professional and support staff of the Flint Community School District. These
grants are offered on two levels: Teacher/Support Staff and Principal/School.

This program is designed as a vehicle for teachers to transform
ideas into actual learning experiences for their students.

Who is eligible to apply for a grant?

All professional and support staff members in the Flint Community School District are eligible to apply for a Great Idea Grant.

What type of grants are available?

Teacher : Awards amounts up to $750 which must benefit at least one classroom of students. Limited to one per individual or team.

School: Awards amounts up to $1,200 which must benefit a grade level of students, multiple classrooms, a department, or the whole school population. Limited to one per school. Although community involvement
is viewed favorably, it is not a requirement for funding

Who owns the resources that are purchased through a Great Idea Grant?

Books, supplies, software, or any other items purchased through
a grant is the property of the Flint Classroom Support Fund for use by the applicant to implement the grant project. On occasion, grant winners have been reassigned or have left the district, and the use of the grant resources have become an issue. In this case, the applicant, school administrator and the Executive Director of the Flint Classroom Support Fund should discuss the best and most appropriate place to use the resources. However, in all cases, the resources of the project are not the personal property of the applicant(s).
