Athletic Academic Study Table Program 2005 - 2006
The Academic Study Table for Student-Athletes exists to provide student-athletes with the best possible services to ensure academic development and success.
We promote individual responsibility to encourage student-athletes to take ownership in their academic and personal pursuits. The Study Table provides and coordinates learning services to enhance student-athletes' education in areas such as tutorials, study skills/strategies and time management development. We also provide a structured atmosphere for student-athletes to study. The discipline of studying, time management and organization are key elements for academic success. Student-athletes who commit and dedicate themselves to the services provided will reap the rewards in fulfilling their academic and personal goals.
An Overview of the Academic Support Program
Academic and personal support is essential to academic success. We have developed an outstanding support program which enables student athletes to reach their full potential. Our philosophy is to offer an academic support program integrated with the curriculum of the district that will assist all student athletes with the transition from middle school to high school and high school to college and provide continued support in all phases of academic development, culminating with graduation.
Our program operates on a "proactive" rather than "reactive" approach. Our academic staff does not wait for a crisis to occur. We gather important background information on each student athlete, build an academic profile, and develop individualized support programs which can be tailored to the unique needs of each student athlete.
The intent of the tutorial program is to provide additional academic assistance. Tutorial sessions cover many different areas which include review of class discussion and notes, study strategies, and other information imperative to the respective class. Student-athletes are expected to actively participate in the tutorial sessions. Attending tutorial sessions well-prepared will enhance the opportunity for greater academic development.
Athletic Academic Study Table Program 2006 - 2007
All student athletes are required to attend study table a minimum of 2 hours per week. Those student athletes with less than the required GPA may be required to spend additional time in the study table. Student Athletes who obtain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater will be exempt from study table. 1. A Student's cumulative grade point average is the indicator for determining mandatory attendance. Below is a sliding scale which will be introduced to the Principals and Athletic Directors for the 2005-2006 academic school year. 0.666 – 1.499 = 4 hours 1.500 – 1.999 = 3 hours
2.000 - 2.499 = 2 hours 2. Time spent independently with tutors outside of scheduled study table session does not count towards the required number of hours. 3. Should a student-athlete fail to fulfill the requirements, the student-athlete will be unable to attend scheduled games until study table obligations have been fulfilled. Study Table Conduct Policies In order to ensure an environment conducive to studying, the following rules are to be observed while in study table:
1. No food or drink
2. No tobacco products
3. No headphones, cell phones, beepers or CD players
4. Use bathroom before study session begins
5. Talking will be kept to a minimum and only pertaining to study material
6. Student Athletes must present their student ID cards and sign in at every session Any disregard for these rules will result in ejection from study table, and hours for that day are forfeited. The disruptive behavior will be reported to the student's coach and Athletic Director. The student-athlete will then be at risk to be suspended from future games. |
