Vision

To transform the Flint Community Schools into high performing schools by instituting four guiding principles:

  • Provide clear and specific academic objectives that identify knowledge and skills by grade level, course and subject
  • Provide resources, support and professional development to achieve academic objectives.
  • Provide regular monitoring of school and student performance
  • Intervene and/or adjust support to schools based on student performance

Goals

  • Improved student academic performance to narrow the achievement gap.
  • Continuous use of data to monitor student performance, target students' and teachers' needs and the instructional areas requiring improvement.
  • Provide leadership, resources and training to promote academic improvement

Areas of Responsibilities

  • Serves in the absence of the superintendent or as directed by the superintendent.
  • Prepares and administers the budget necessary to implement the objectives of the Office of Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Interprets Board policy and administrative rules.
  • Evaluates trends in education.
  • Articulates academic performance across the school district for each subject area.
  • Directs and supervises the overall instructional program of the district.
  • Supervises the preparation of reports, records and similar documentation appropriate to the administration of the Flint schools and/or required by the superintendent.
  • Evaluates all personnel reporting directly to and involved within the scope of the Office of Curriculm & Instruction or as assigned by the superintendent.
