VISION STATEMENT
In order to prepare children for school success, our Early Childhood programs will:
-
Implement best practices in Early Childhood education.

Provide comprehensive services to support children and families.

Provide ongoing assessment of progress.

Provide multiple opportunities for parent education and involvement.
-
Facilitate linkages between Pre-K – Grade 3 programs.
Our goal will be to improve student achievement and increase parent involvement in their child’s education.

Pre-Kindergarten Programs
- Kindergarten Readiness program for 4 year old children
- Free to eligible children who meet at least two at risk factors
- Families do not have to be low income
- Serves 736 children in 23 classrooms throughout the district
- Parent involvement/activities are included
- Vision, hearing and dental screenings included
- Nutritious snacks offered daily
- AM or PM sessions available, classes meet Monday – Thursday
- Birth certificate, immunization record and physical required for enrollment
- Early enrollment begins in April, families must call to enroll/sign up (760-1344, 760-1880)

Head Start
- Kindergarten Readiness Program for 3-5 year old children
- Free to eligible low income families
- Serves 745 children in 25 classrooms throughout the district
- Includes children with diagnosed disabilities
- Family involvement and partnerships are a part of the program
- Vision, hearing and dental screenings included
- Nutritious snack and lunch provided daily
- Half and full day sessions available, classes meet Monday – Thursday
- Birth certificate, immunization record and physical required for enrollment
- Early enrollment begins in April; families must call to verify eligibility/set up enrollment appointment (760-1880, 760-1841)

Rainbow Learning Programs
- Comprehensive early childhood education and child care services
- Fee based; child care assistance payments accepted
- Programs available for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age children 2 weeks old – 12 years old
- Serves approximately 700 children in 25 classrooms throughout the district
- Breakfast, lunch and snacks provided
- Full or part time enrollment, Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.; evening care available at one site 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
- 1/2 day programs available for Head Start, Pre-K, ECDD or Kindergarten children needing all day services
- Before and after school programs available
- Birth certificate, immunization record and physical required for enrollment for children 2 weeks-5 years old
- Summer programs, Specialty Camps offered; Holiday/School break programs offered
- Open enrollment, year round (760-1880, 760-7461)

Early Head Start
- Targets low income families with children 0-3 years old
- Parent education and parent involvement focus
- Free to eligible low income families/families with children with disabilities; pregnant mothers eligible also
- Serves 90 children in a home based model
- Includes weekly home visits; bi-monthly parent parent/child groups, year round
- Health and nutrition services and screenings included
- Family activities, field trips and special events included with transportation
- Links children to Head Start at age 3
- Birth certificate, immunization record and physical required for enrollment
- Early enrollment begins in April; families must call to verify eligibility/set up enrollment appointment (760-1841, 760-7114)

Even Start
- Targets low income families with children 0-6 years old and a parent without a high school diploma or GED
- Family literacy focus with parent education and parent/child interaction
- Includes adult education and/or GED instruction for the parent and early childhood education for the child
- Free to eligible families
- Serves 40 families at three locations in the district
- Includes transportation, field trips, special events and child care
- Home visits and center based activities included in a year round program
- Birth certificate, immunization record and physical required for enrollment of child
- Open enrollment until fall; families must call to set up enrollment (760-7060)

- Sponsored by the Flint School's Special Education Department
- Early childhood program for 0-7 year old children with disabilities/delays
- Certified special education staff, speech & language services
- Transportation provided as needed
- Parent Meetings

S.K.I.P. to a great start
- Parent education and involvement program for families with a child 0-5 years old
- Parents choose level of involvement/activities to participate in
- Includes home visits, parent/child play groups, field trips, and special events
- Focuses on early literacy and preschool readiness skills
- Families connected to PASSPORT, Ready Kits and Literacy Kits
- Birth certificate, and immunization record required for enrollment
- Pre-K Primary Project offered to children enrolled/eligible through Head Start, Pre-K or Rainbow Learning Programs
