Service Learning

Service Learning
Connecting Schools and Communities

Service learning is a teaching/learning method that combines student learning with meaningful service experiences. Students apply classroom learning to address real community issues.

Service learning is curriculum based experiential learning. Service learning defines the relationship between the student and their world.

Service learning promotes:

· Civic responsibility

· Decision making skills

· Practical application of knowledge

· Sense of self and community

Service learning has been implemented through the efforts of the Flint Schools and Big Brothers/Big Sisters who developed an innovative Service Learning School Liaison Model.
