The Office of Pupil Personnel Services plans, directs, and evaluates a wide variety of services and programs in order to satisfy state laws and Flint Board of Education Policies and Procedures.

 

Youth Projects Diversion Attendance Court

What is Youth Projects Diversion Attendance Court?

A program to divert juveniles/families from Genesee County Family Court Intake Department with a goal to avoid further contact with the Court system due to truancy or educational neglect.

Referral to Program

Referrals to the program may be made by a Family Court referee or casework supervisor. Juveniles on formal calendar probation are not eligible for referral to the program.

Admission Criteria

School age (6-16 years)

First time offenders…or a juvenile who has a previous referral to the Court which was handled in an informal basis, and which the child successfully completed.

Parents willingness to participate in order to avoid further court action.

Elements of the Program

Orientation/Intake for all families.

Weekly individual counseling.

Weekly telephone and/or school contact.

Phase 1 (30 days)
Attend weekly Judge Beagle’s Attendance Court with parent.

Phase 2 (30 days)
Biweekly court appearances.
Compliance with the casework plan.

Phase 3 (30 days)
Monthly court appearances.
Biweekly or more contracts by the caseworker.
The Youth Projects Diversion Attendance Court program will ordinarily remain involved with the juvenile and family for no more than three months.

What are the responsibilities of the students?

Report weekly to Youth Projects Diversion Attendance Court caseworker.

Compliance with Family Court Rules of Probation.

Community Service.

Legal Status of Students

All juveniles in this program would be placed on probation on the Consent Calendar with supervision provided by the Youth Projects Diversion Attendance Court.

The $75 oversight fee will be assessed but waived upon successful participation in the program.

Funding provided by United Way of Genesee County and Genesee County Family Court.
