Youth Projects "Shoes that Fit"

Youth Projects, Flint Community Schools joined the Shoes That Fit program as a credited chapter in 1997. Since that time thanks to our generous partners, our Shoes That Fit program has grown to include not only shoes but also a 6-pack of socks, hats, and gloves.

Youth Projects, Shoes That Fit is the largest site in the state of Michigan.

How We Work

The school identifies the children in need and provides the information on each child. Only schools can make referrals for shoes.

Forms are provided to schools with the principal or their designee responsible for identifying children in need of shoes.

Forms are submitted to the Youth Projects office.

Youth Projects then submits the forms to partners.

All three medical centers in Genesee County, Genesys, Hurley, and McLaren, are key partners and conduct a yearly coordinated campaign.

Hospital employees purchase new shoes for an identified child.
Each medical center donates $2,000 to purchase a 6-pack of socks for each pair of shoes.

Hats and gloves are donated by individual and various organizations.

There is a shoe distribution day where shoes, socks, hats, and gloves are sorted by volunteers according to schools. Thousands of pairs of shoes have been donated.

Payless Shoe Source employees deliver and assist with the distribution of socks according to shoe size.

Schools pick up purchased items and then give to the children.

What Sets Us Apart

100% of what’s purchased goes directly to the child.

All money donated is placed in a separate Shoes That Fit budget. Only socks, shoes, hats, and gloves are charged against this budget.

All donations are tax deductible.

Letters of Appreciation

“I just wanted to say thank you very much for your support helping my children with new shoes and socks! They enjoy them very much and appreciate wearing them to school every day. There are a lot of people who are thankful to have such caring people to help others in the ways you do! Thank you for being there, for all the people in need. God Bless.”
