Flint Community Schools Return to In-Person

January 21, 2021

Dear Families –

Last night, the Flint Community Schools Board of Education approved a plan to offer families the option to return to in-person learning through a hybrid model, beginning February 22, 2021. Families who would like to participate in two days per week of in-person learning should contact their child’s teacher or school. Meanwhile, those families who have elected to continue with remote learning will have the option to continue with remote learning.

As you know, the safety and well-being of our school community is our primary concern. This decision was made after reviewing local COVID-19 data in partnership with medical and public health professionals and following the recommendation of Governor Whitmer that all K-12 schools offer some in-person learning by March 1, 2021.

The hybrid option is a combination of face-to-face and remote learning. The district will share more information in the very near future with details on what the hybrid option will look like. This option will adhere to all of the health and safety guidelines outlined in our Safe Return and Recovery Plan, which was developed with the input of administrators, teachers, staff, community partners, Board of Education members, union representatives and parents. It is our belief that this plan will guide the continued academic, social and emotional growth of our scholars while maintaining, first and foremost, our commitment to safety and well-being.

We thank our committed staff, who returned to the school buildings this week. They are hard at work preparing for the return to in-person learning, while working closely with our scholars to support their growth and development. We welcome your continued feedback as this process moves forward.

We once again remind scholars and families to continue to adhere to COVID-19 safety recommendations made by the Genesee County Health Department. This includes wearing a cloth face covering or mask, practicing frequent hand washing, staying home when sick and continuing to watch for potential symptoms of illness.

Thank you for allowing us to serve your family, your continued commitment to Flint Community Schools and for remaining Flint Focused.

Your Partner in Education,

Mrs. Anita J. Steward
