September 10, 2021
I know there have been a variety of challenges across the district recently and that many are frustrated by how the school year has begun at Flint Community Schools. After all of the work that the district team dedicated to preparing for a successful start of the 2021-22 school year, this is not how we envisioned the beginning of the year.
We apologize for the disruption that it has caused for our scholars and our families. Please know that we are working diligently to address these issues to minimize, if not eliminate completely, any additional disruption so that we can provide the services our scholars need to grow academically, socially and emotionally.
With our first intersession coming to a close (today), we will be welcoming all scholars back to our buildings on Monday, September 13 – including welcoming our Doyle-Ryder K-6th grade students at Potter Elementary as infrastructure improvement efforts begin at Doyle-Ryder.
As our scholars return to school, district leadership is planning to participate in Parent Advisory Council meetings at each of our schools in the coming weeks – giving us an opportunity to hear directly from you and to share vital information specific to each building. I encourage you to join your school’s meeting to stay connected, engaged and up-to-date on the latest happenings at FCS. Please visit FlintParents.org for upcoming meetings, or connect with your school’s CRIM representative, or family engagement officer for more information.
We will remain positive and continue working to ensure your child receives the high-quality education they deserve. We remain dedicated to our families and want to provide your scholars with the education and skills they need for lifelong success. We are grateful for your commitment to FCS and for your continued patience as we work through some of the unforeseeable challenges we’ve faced over the past several weeks. I hope to see you at an upcoming parent meeting.
Thank you for choosing FCS as your partner in your scholar’s education.
