FLINT COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
923 E. Kearsley Street Flint, Michigan 48503
November 18, 2021
To the families of Flint Community Schools,
It’s hard to believe that we’re just a few days from Thanksgiving break – in many ways, it seems as though the school year has only just begun. As we head into the final days before the break, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your continued commitment to your child’s education and to Flint Community Schools.
In addition to wanting to wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving, I’m writing to you today to make sure you are aware that the Board of Education officially appointed me to the role of superintendent during last night’s Regular School Board meeting. This appointment is an extraordinary honor, one I am deeply grateful for and humbled by.
In March 2020, I lost my father to COVID-19. Before he passed, he told me that one day, I would be the superintendent of FCS. Given the wonderful team of professionals throughout the district that I am privileged to work alongside, I am confident that Flint Community Schools will continue to provide its scholars with the learning experience that will support their academic, social and emotional growth.
As a proud 1995 graduate of Southwestern Academy, Flint has always been my home and community. To serve in this role is a full circle moment and dream. As your new superintendent, my goals are as follows, but are not limited to:
- Continue to commit to the health and safety of our FCS community
- Ensure our scholars are fully supported with technology, through our 2:1 Tech program
- Partner with community organizations to move forward with the renovation, rebuilding and re-energizing of our schools as we continue to be future focused
- Remain Flint-focused for our scholars, teachers, staff and community
Our priority at Flint Community Schools has always been, and will always be, our scholars. As we work with the community on identifying how best to utilize the ESSER funding the district has and will receive – to integrate programs and make improvements throughout Flint Community Schools to support our scholars – I hope you will join me in being excited about the future of our district. I look forward to sharing our plans as they are solidified and introducing improvements that will have a short- and long-term impact on our scholars and the entire community.
Thank you again for your continued dedication to Flint Community Schools and for serving as our partner in your child’s education. I am honored to be your new superintendent and I am ready to serve our community with commitment, diligence, passion, and grace and will do all that I can to serve in the greatest capacity this role allows.
On behalf of Flint Community Schools, wishing you a wonderful and peaceful Thanksgiving.
Your Partner in Education,
