Dear Flint Community Schools Families,
After thorough conversations with local health officials and given the continued rise in COVID-19 cases across Genesee County, Flint Community Schools has decided to continue distance learning the week of January 10.
This means that scholars will continue distance learning Monday, January 10 through Thursday, January 13. Scholars will be expected to follow their regular school schedule on these days. There will be no school on Friday, January 14, as it is records day across the district.
The safety of our entire school community remains a primary concern. While we are eager to welcome our scholars back for in-person learning, based on the counsel we received from our local health team and looking at the current COVID numbers across the region, we decided this is the best solution to ensure the health and safety of Flint Community Schools.
During the week of January 10, food distribution services will be available on Tuesday, January 11 and Thursday, January 13 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the locations listed below. Families picking up food on Friday, January 7 will also receive an extra day’s worth of food (breakfast, lunch, snack and supper).
- Holmes STEM
- Southwestern Academy
We greatly apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We will continue to monitor the number of cases and work with local health officials to determine when it is safe to reopen our schools for in-person learning.
As a reminder, please continue to charge your devices at home and visit our district’s website at FlintSchools.org for regular updates and tips on distance learning. As always, do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s principal at the school with questions.
We know that the last two years have been extremely difficult for our scholars and the entire school community. We are grateful for the patience and understanding you have demonstrated throughout. Like you, we hope the end of the pandemic is near, but we will not let it hinder our efforts in supporting the academic, social and emotional growth of our scholars.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Flint Community Schools and for serving as our partner in your child’s education.
Kevelin Jones, Superintendent
