Dear Flint Community Schools Community,

We hope you and your family had a safe and relaxing holiday break. Though we are in our second week of distance learning out of an abundance of caution and safety for our school community, we are excited to have our scholars back online and learning, continuing to build on the positive momentum we’ve developed over the past several months.

As we enter the second semester, school districts across the state and country have faced both challenges and success over the course of the last year, and even the last two weeks. With extensive leadership, guidance and support, Flint Community Schools have persevered to continuously provide scholars with the essential tools for their education and futures.

This month, we want to extend our gratitude to the FCS School Board during School Board Recognition Month. January is celebrated as School Board Recognition Month, where more than 540 school districts in Michigan honor more than 4,000 elected school board members for their untiring dedication to school governance.

On behalf of Flint Community Schools, it is my pleasure to thank those who continue to volunteer their time and work tirelessly to help develop and support policies that impact our scholars’ education and future.

We are tremendously fortunate to have engaged board members at Flint who are passionate about the achievements of the scholars, teachers, and staff in our Flint community. We are privileged to have a unified board devoted to strengthening our school district every day. Our board puts scholars and their best interests above all else, and for that, we are grateful.

Consisting of a diverse group, from seasoned veterans with many years of service to our newest members serving their first year, the board brings experience and energy to our district. I encourage the Flint community to take time this month and throughout the year to show appreciation to our school board members. I’m tremendously grateful for the ongoing support I’ve received from the board, especially since my appointment to superintendent. I am looking forward to the coming days and months to working together to ensure our scholars have the resources they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

As 2022 begins, and we look forward to what this year will bring, it’s vital to recognize and keep in mind the impact our board has on our school community. They will continue to be a leader and guide us to more success and triumphs in the years to come.

Thank you for your continued support of Flint Community Schools and for serving as our partner in your child’s education. Please join me in recognizing the Flint Community Schools Board for their tireless dedication and devotion to our scholars, our families, our schools, and our community.

Educationally Yours,

Kevelin Jones
