Dear Flint Families,

In the final days and weeks that lead up to the last day of school, I like to spend time reflecting on the school year and the incredible accomplishments and progress of our scholars, families and educators. Throughout the 2021-22 school year, we saw success both in and out of the classroom, achievements across all our buildings and a deepened sense of family engagement. On behalf of the Flint Community Schools team, I want to thank you for all you did this past school year.

Throughout the school year, our scholars, families, teachers and staff demonstrated flexibility and grace as we navigated our return to in-person learning, resulting in a truly incredible experience. Together, we were able to return to the classroom and reconnect with one another, and I want to thank our school community for its support. The sounds of laughter and learning throughout the school year reminded all of us of the importance of a safe learning environment. We remain dedicated to equipping the next generation of Flint scholars with the knowledge, skills and traits that are required for them to be contributing members of society.

While we look forward to a safe and relaxing summer, we encourage all families to keep their children engaged in learning over the summer months. We must work together and focus on a year-round learning experience in order to create lifelong learners. Summer camps, a reading schedule and study guides can mitigate learning loss over the summer months. If you have any questions or need additional tips, do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support for Flint Community Schools. We appreciate your partnership as we provide the scholars of Flint with a safe space to learn, grow and play. There are exciting updates coming to the district that are a direct result of your feedback, including reimagined learning spaces and wraparound services. The future of Flint Community Schools is bright, and we invite you and your family on this journey.

We encourage families interested in enrolling for the 2022-23 school year to begin that process now, whether their children are going into kindergarten, middle or high school. We have resources available on our website to help get you started. We hope that you have a safe and relaxing summer.

Educationally Yours,

Kevelin Jones
