Dear Flint Community Schools Families,

At Flint Community Schools, the safety and well-being of our school community is always our primary concern, whether scholars are in the classroom or taking part in after-school activities. We are always reviewing our safety protocols to ensure that we are doing everything we can to create a safe environment for our school community to learn, grow and play. As a result of the incidents that happened at the Flint Jaguars’ home football game on Friday, September 16, we are implementing a new protocol for the remaining home football games this season.

The Flint Jaguars’ home games on Friday, September 23 and Friday, September 30 will be by invitation only. Each scholar-athlete will be able to invite five people (family members, siblings, etc.) who will be allowed to enter the game. Names must be submitted by 5 p.m. on the day before each game. Members of the Education Foundation, Flint Athletic Alumni, FCS staff members and athletic scouts will also be allowed in attendance with the approval of Athletic Director Jamie Foster. Attendees will still be required to purchase a ticket. This protocol allows us to limit the number of attendees and gives us the ability to track who is in attendance.

We have high expectations for our school community. Scholars should know that when they are out in the world, they are representing Flint Community Schools and must demonstrate safety, mindfulness, respect and responsibility. We expect the same from our visitors. Per our code of conduct, we will not allow anyone to attend games if they are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If you are turned away at the gates, you are expected to leave the grounds. There will be no exceptions. We will continue to do all that we can to create a safe space for our school community to come together.

School safety takes a commitment from the entire community, and we ask that you help us inform our scholars about reporting threats and altercations responsibly and appropriately. If you hear about a potentially dangerous situation, contact school officials directly or through the State of Michigan’s Okay2Say tip line at 8-555-OK2SAY or [email protected]. Scholars should understand that there are legal ramifications for physical violence or threats, even if made online, and that the safety of our school community is a serious matter.

We apologize for any inconvenience this protocol may cause, but when it comes to the safety of our school community, we must act swiftly and do what is best for those involved. If there are questions, please do not hesitate to reach out at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Kevelin Jones

Superintendent
