Flint, Michigan – The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) will begin accepting applications from citizens who are interested in filling a vacant seat on the Board of Education of Flint Community Schools.
In a letter dated September 28, 2022, Flint Community Schools Superintendent Kevelin Jones and Board of Education President Carol McIntosh, requested that the GISD Board of Education appoint a qualified and registered elector residing within the boundaries of Flint Community Schools to fill the vacancy resulting from the resignation of Dr. Danielle Green on August 25, 2022. Flint Community Schools determined that 30 days have passed since the vacancy first existed, and therefore, the Genesee Intermediate School District Board of Education is responsible for filling the vacancy pursuant to Michigan Election Law (MCL 168.311(1)). The GISD Board of Education has developed a fair and transparent process to fill the vacancy as requested, which will include an opportunity for qualified applicants to be interviewed by the GISD Board of Education.
An applicant must be a registered voter who lives within the boundaries of Flint Community Schools. To be considered for appointment, candidates must submit a one-page letter of application and a one-page resume to the GISD Superintendent’s Office no later than 4:00 p.m. on October 13, 2022.

All interviews and meetings are open to the public and will be held in the Legacy Auditorium of the Erwin L. Davis Education Center, 2413 West Maple Avenue, Flint, Michigan. Interviews are scheduled for Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at 5:00 pm. The GISD Board of Education will select and appoint the new board member immediately following completion of all interviews.
The names of the candidates and a complete schedule of interviews and meetings will be posted after applications have been submitted. Pursuant to the Revised School Code, the new board member will serve the remainder of the term of the vacancy which is December 31, 2022.
