Dear Flint Families,

We cannot wait to see you and your scholar tomorrow, Wednesday, August 9 for the first day of school. We have an incredible school year ahead of us, filled with academic growth and friendships both old and new.

Kelly Fields and Superintendent Kevelin Jones

Ahead of the first day of school, we wanted to share an exciting update to the district’s administrative team. Accelerated Learning Academy’s principal, Kelly Fields, has been named the district’s Executive Director of Academics, and she’s been vital as we plan for the new school year. We thank Mrs. Fields for her leadership and guidance as your principal over the years, and we cannot wait to have her lead in this new capacity. As the Executive Director of Academics, Mrs. Fields will be a key member of our leadership team. She possesses extensive experience, a commitment to scholar success and dedication to educational excellence. Please join us in thanking Mrs. Fields for her continued commitment to our scholars and shared mission.

Richard Russell, former Assistant Principal at Southwestern Classical Academy, will be stepping in as the Interim Principal at ALA. Mrs. Fields will serve as a resource to Mr. Russell in the weeks ahead to ensure a smooth transition. Mr. Russell has been a key member of our high school team and is the best person to lead while we determine a permanent replacement.

We have three additional staffing changes that you should be aware of:

  • Donetta Moore-Beaugard, former Assistant Principal at Holmes STEM Academy, will be stepping in as the Interim Principal at the building.
  • Julie Groce is the new principal at Freeman Elementary.
  • KaSandra Cookenmaster is the new principal at Neithercut Elementary.

We look forward to having you meet your new principal in the days and weeks ahead.

If there are additional questions regarding this update, please do not hesitate to reach out at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Kevelin Jones, Superintendent
