Flint Classroom Support Fund
The Great Idea Grant program offers awards to the professional and support staff of the Flint Community School District. These grants are offered on two levels: Teacher/Support Staff and Principal/School. All professional and support staff members in the Flint Community School District are eligible to apply for a Great Idea Grant.
The grant program is funded by contributions from individuals and businesses, donations to the district's Employees' Combined Charitable Campaign, and additional fundraisers. The Flint Classroom Support Fund is very grateful to all who help make this program a cornerstone for inspiration and education.
For Teachers/Support Staff
Awards up to $1,000, which must benefit at least one classroom. Limited to one per individual or team. Great Idea Grant programs encourage collaboration between teachers by linking learning across disciplines, piloting new curriculum ideas, and allowing teachers to transform ideas into tangible learning experiences.
For Principals/Schools
Awards up to $2,000, which must benefit a grade level of students, multiple classrooms, a department, or the whole school population. Limited to one per school. (Although community involvement is viewed favorably, it is not a requirement for funding.)
Keep in Mind
Any books, supplies, software, or other items purchased through a Great Idea Grant are the property of the Flint Classroom Support Fund for use by the applicant to implement the grant project. If grant winners have been reassigned or have left the district, the applicant, school administrator and Executive Director of the Flint Classroom Support Fund will discuss the best and most appropriate way to use the resources. Regardless, the resources for the project do not become the personal property of the applicant(s).
How to Apply
Applications for Great Idea Grants are available online in October. You may also obtain copies from the Flint Classroom Support Fund office located in the Flint Community Schools' Administration Building (second floor).
Completed applications must be received by the Flint Classroom Support Fund (Superintendent's Office) on or before 4:00 p.m., on the Monday BEFORE Thanksgiving. Evaluation reports and financial records must be received by the Classroom Support Fund (Superintendent's office) by 4:00 p.m., June 30. Failure to meet the timeline will result in the grantee returning the total amount of the grant to the Fund.
The Great Idea Grant program has helped hundreds of teachers, support staff and principals initiate programs that have positively impacted thousands of students. We hope you will share your ideas with us so that we may help make them a reality.
