Flint, Michigan – July 16, 2025 – Flint Community Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Natoya Coleman the district’s new Chief Innovation Officer (CIO). In this executive-level position, Dr. Coleman will play a crucial role in driving and overseeing key initiatives and strategic projects that span multiple departments on behalf of the Superintendent. 

Dr. Coleman brings 18 years of extensive experience in education, having served in various roles including Middle and High School English Teacher, Ninth Grade Coordinator, Academic Coach, High School Assistant Principal for Culture and Climate, and Elementary Principal. This diverse background uniquely positions her to support the district towards achieving its vision.

As the CIO, Natoya will provide leadership in the development and implementation of innovative programs and services that advance Flint Community Schools’ educational mission. She will work collaboratively with our leadership team and faculty to facilitate growth and continuous improvement across the district. Her commitment to fostering a culture of accountability, empowerment, and ownership aligns perfectly with the district’s mission to Re-Energize the Pride, Renovate the Plans, Rebuild the Possibilities, and Repurpose for a Brighter Future.

Dr. Coleman’s responsibilities will include supervising and directing principals and some district leaders to ensure alignment with district goals while encouraging innovative education practices. She will also monitor and oversee curriculum and instructional services to support the continuous integration of forward-thinking teaching and learning strategies.
