Flint Community Schools Public Announcement

Flint, Michigan – This morning at approximately 8:34 a.m., there was a report of a small fire in the school cafeteria at Freeman Elementary. The building was immediately and safely evacuated, and the Flint Fire Department responded quickly to the scene.

The fire was contained to a food warmer and thanks to the swift actions of staff and the fire department, the situation was brought under control within minutes.

Out of an abundance of caution, and due to smoke in the cafeteria, scholars were dismissed for the remainder of the day. The rest of the building was not affected by the incident.

After evaluation, the building has been deemed safe for scholars and staff to return for learning tomorrow.
