Flint, MI — October 15, 2025 — In a historic moment for public education in Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer visited Potter Elementary School Monday morning to sign the newly passed state education budget. Surrounded by Flint Community Schools scholars, Board of Education members, administrative staff, and local and state officials, the event highlighted the state’s ongoing commitment to supporting students and schools across Michigan.

“This is an important day for public education in our state,” Governor Whitmer said during the ceremony. “Investing in our schools means investing in our future, and Flint Community Schools is an example of the incredible work happening in communities across Michigan.”

Flint Community Schools leadership expressed pride in hosting the governor for this significant occasion. “We are honored to have this historic moment take place at Potter Elementary,” said Kevelin Jones, Superintendent of Flint Community Schools. “Our scholars, staff, and community continue to show what’s possible when we work together to support education.”
