Flint Community Schools Public Announcement

Flint, MI - Scholars and staff at Brownell-Holmes STEM Academy were safely evacuated this morning after a gas odor was detected on or near the campus. Following guidance from Consumers Energy, the district took immediate action to relocate everyone to Northwestern High School while the situation was assessed.

Consumers Energy responded quickly and conducted a thorough inspection of the campus. Once the buildings were deemed safe, scholars and staff returned to Brownell-Holmes campus, and normal school operations resumed.

ā€œSafety is always our top priority,ā€ said Superintendent Kevelin Jones. ā€œWe are grateful for the quick response from Consumers Energy and the cooperation of our families, staff, and scholars during this precautionary measure. Everyone remained calm, and we are relieved that all our scholars and staff are back on campus safely.ā€

Flint Community Schools continues to work closely with Consumers Energy to monitor campus safety and ensure the well-being of the school community.
