The Cube @ Brownell-Holmes Handprint Mural

One year ago today, Flint Community Schools celebrated the ribbon cutting of the newly renovated Brownell-Holmes STEM Academy Campus — marking an important milestone in the District’s commitment to creating innovative learning environments and strengthening connections between schools and the communities they serve.

As we reflect on that milestone one year later, one of the most meaningful reminders of the campus’ story can be found inside The Cube @ Brownell-Holmes — a mural featuring handprints from the people who make this campus and community what it is.

The handprints represent scholars, staff members, administrators, members of the Flint Community Schools Board of Education, Brownell-Holmes Neighborhood Association members and stakeholders. Together, they create a visual representation of the many people who have a hand in building the future of Brownell-Holmes and Flint Community Schools.

The mural is more than artwork on a wall. Each handprint represents a connection to the campus and a shared investment in the opportunities it provides.

A Place Where School and Community Come Together

Designed as the central hub of campus and community life, The Cube is more than a building. It is a gathering place where ideas, relationships and opportunities come alive.

During the school day, The Cube provides flexible spaces for learning, collaboration and enrichment. Its open design and technology-rich environment support the evolving needs of scholars and educators while creating opportunities for people to learn and work together.

Beyond the school day, The Cube is designed to serve the broader Brownell-Holmes community. Neighborhood association meetings, afterschool programs, community events and other activities can take place within the space, creating opportunities for the school and community to connect in meaningful ways.

That purpose is reflected in the mural.

The handprints bring together the people who are part of the Brownell-Holmes story — from the scholars learning on campus each day to the educators and staff who support them, community members who call the neighborhood home, Board of Education members and stakeholders who have helped move the vision forward.

A Shared Future

The Brownell-Holmes STEM Academy Campus represents more than a physical transformation. It reflects a vision for what is possible when schools and communities work together.

The Cube serves as a physical representation of that vision: a place where learning does not stop at the classroom door and where the school and community can share space, ideas and opportunities.

One year after the ribbon was cut, the handprints inside The Cube remain a lasting reminder that this work is not about one person, one group or one moment.

It is about all of us having a hand in the future of Brownell-Holmes.

As Flint Community Schools celebrates the first anniversary of the Brownell-Holmes STEM Academy Campus, we recognize the scholars, staff, Board of Education, community members and stakeholders whose hands — literally and figuratively — are part of its story.

One year later, the vision continues.
