This event is not just the unveiling of a newly renovated campus, but the realization of a shared vision. Flint Community Schools, in collaboration with The Flint Center for Educational Excellence and The Brownell-Holmes Neighborhood Association, embraced a co-design model throughout this renovation process. Parents, scholars, staff, and community members worked side by side to ensure the spaces reflect the aspirations and needs of the entire community.
Campus Highlights Include:
Upgraded classrooms designed for 21st-century learning
A brand-new Early Childhood Center serving children ages 6 weeks to 5 years
Modern athletic and recreational facilities, including football, soccer, pickleball, basketball, and a competition-ready track
New gymnasiums in both the Holmes and Brownell buildings
The Cube @ Brownell-Holmes, a 5,000-square-foot community hub for after-school programming, enrichment, and neighborhood engagement
These improvements were made possible through a combination of federal ESSER funds ā more than $26 million ā and the generous support of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, which contributed over $14 million. Together, these investments have transformed two school buildings into a thriving STEM-focused community education campus serving scholars from infancy through adulthood.
Following the ceremony, guests will have the opportunity to tour the campus and experience firsthand the spaces designed to inspire and empower scholars, families, and the greater Flint community.
