Flint Community Schools is proud to announce a significant investment from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation—over $5 million in support of design work and demolition at the former Flint Central High School and Whittier Classical Academy site. This major commitment marks a pivotal step toward building a brand-new campus, following formal approval from the Flint Board of Education.
This investment reflects a shared vision for educational excellence in Flint. It strengthens our efforts to create a learning environment that truly embodies our district’s commitment to opportunity, innovation, and high-quality instruction for every scholar. We are deeply grateful to the Mott Foundation, as well as our valued community partners—the Flint Center for Educational Excellence and Dr. Wanda Cook Robinson—for their continued support and partnership in bringing this vision to life.
A Clear Path Forward
On December 3rd, the Flint Community Schools Board of Education approved the official design for the new high school that will rise on the Central-Whittier campus. The two former school buildings located on Crapo Street, adjacent to the Flint Cultural Center, are scheduled for demolition in early 2026. Both demolition and design work for the new campus are projected to be completed by the end of the year—bringing us one step closer to a state-of-the-art learning environment for our scholars.
A Vision Rooted in Innovation and Opportunity
We are building more than just a school—we are building a future. Our instructional vision is grounded in innovation, career pathways, opportunity, and purpose. Every part of the new campus—from its spaces to its programs to its partnerships—will be intentionally designed to prepare scholars not only for graduation, but for greatness.
This new campus will cultivate the skills, confidence, and curiosity needed for scholars to become leaders in the careers and communities of tomorrow.
Flint Community Schools remains committed to creating transformative educational experiences for every scholar, and this milestone brings us another step closer to that reality.
